The Full Picture

Leaving rural Sri Lanka, my parents embarked on a quest for a better life. I spent the first 10 years of my life in Sri Lanka, and my transition into Canadian culture had me shellshocked. This shift brought me new opportunities to learn and collaborate, values I aim to uphold today.
My younger years were spent begging my mother to buy films from the DVD store during our rides back from school. We’d watch those films till the discs gave out. Those early films connected me to a plethora of stories that ignited my passion for storytelling and writing. Ever since I was a little boy I always wanted to be a storyteller.
Editing on free mobile apps, filming with broken phones, endless YouTube videos expanding my knowledge on film as a child. This transitioned into my highschool film courses, where I dived further into my knowledge theoretically and practically. Editing with professional editing suites, shaping light and framing compositions with professional cameras, all for the purpose of serving a beautiful story that has the potential to shape the world.
My proudest and most acclaimed moments from my later years during and after highschool. I led a full class team of students to direct and write a school funded 20-minute film, twice. One of these films, “Rat King”, won “Best Fraser Valley Film” at the Chilliwack Independent Film Festival. I also produced, directed, and wrote a documentary for the clients that use the Salvation Army’s Pantry which had its own grand premiere and recognition from TV, radio, and articles. My films have been nominated and won at multiple film festivals. I have also worked with production companies as a Production Assistant.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Film Production at Capilano University after high school. This aligns perfectly with my passions and aspirations to bring honest and meaningful narratives to life. I aim to climb the film industry ladder, crafting feature-length films, and sharing diverse perspectives that resonate deeply with audiences. My ultimate goal is to create impactful films that reflect my unique outlook, fostering connections and sparking change.
Through storytelling, I aim to capture truths, crafting engaging narratives. I see filmmaking as demanding, requiring unwavering dedication. This isn't a casual choice; it's a dream that fuels my spirit. It's more than passion—it's my calling. I'm committed to using my voice and skills for positive impact through filmmaking. My goal is to connect people and inspire change through cinema, creating films that resonate, provoke, and transcend boundaries.
